Manufacturing Industry Competitiveness Research

The global competition is the profound background and main direction of contemporary economic development. As the key subject of regional and national competitiveness, it is of great significance to evaluate the development as well as the competitiveness of manufacturing industry in both theoretical and practical level. On the basis of fully research on the existing theory, further study has been made on the connotation, characteristic and scope of manufacturing industry. The evaluation system of manufacturing competition has also been built with the combination of the practical situation of Shaanxi province. Factor analysis and principal component analysis has been chosen for empirical analysis, besides, cluster analysis has been adopted for further study.There are four main aspects of this study. First, through the study of the related theories and the current research status of the manufacturing industry at home and abroad, the connotation, characteristic and scope of manufacturing industry has been defined on the theoretical basis, which laying a solid foundation for this thesis research. Second, through the analysis of the sources of the manufacturing competitiveness and with the industrial environment of Shaanxi province, the system of evaluation which involves eleven specific indicators in three categories has been founded and the evaluation methods and procedures have been designed. Third, the overall evaluation of competitiveness of manufacturing industry in Shaanxi Province has been evaluated by factor analysis and principal component analysis with accurate dates. The key point of enhancing the competitiveness of manufacturing industry has been founded by analyzing the causes of competitiveness through the main factor connotation. The study has shown that12of the30manufacturing’s competitiveness in Shaanxi are better than the national average while the others still have room for promotion. Fourth, policy-related recommendations have been made to solve the problems in the development of manufacturing industry in order to enhance the competitiveness of manufacturing industry in Shaanxi Province.On the index system of this thesis paper, manufacturing competitiveness has been measured mainly in efficiency, market, profit and potential levels. Through theoretical and empirical analysis, conclusion has been made that manufacturing competitiveness is the result of multiple factors and the measurement should focus on more than one direction. Structural problems, lacking of technical inputs and institutional innovation are main problems which restrict the improvement of Manufacturing Competitiveness in Shaanxi Province. Market development, technology investment, industrial policy and corporate management are proper ways to solve those problems.
