Study On Industrial Competitiveness Of Tianjin’s Equipment Manufacturing

As an important part of manufacturing, equipment manufacturingprovides technology and equipment for national security and economy. Itis a basic industry, not only represents the degree of progress of societyand scientific technology of a country or a region, but also it is strategyindustries to achieve sustain competitiveness. Located in the center of theBohai Economic Rim, with nearly a hundred years of development ofequipment manufacturing, Tianjin is one of the cradles of China modernindustry. Enhancing the competitiveness of equipment manufacturing inTianjin can achieve the role of economic engine; achieve to driveeconomic development of the Bohai Rim and the whole northern region.Therefore, how to enhance the competitiveness of equipmentmanufacturing in Tianjin become problems to be solved.Firstly, the paper introduces the research background, aim, contendand research methods, and innovation.Then, it is started from the related theory, and describing theoreticalresearch of equipment manufacturing and industrial competitiveness,especially the theories of these aspects: connotation of equipmentmanufacturing and theory of industrial competitiveness, position andeffect of equipment manufacturing, and basic theory of industrial competitiveness, paving the way for theoretical research of Tianjinequipment manufacturing competitiveness.The third part analyzes equipment manufacturing of Tianjin, throughboth qualitative and quantitative methods. Based on Michael Porter’s"SWOT" theory, through qualitative research method, we get theconclusion that equipment manufacturing industry of Tianjin has acomparative advantage. Using the method of Revealed ComparativeAdvantage Index and Principal Component Analysis, we can see thecompetitiveness rankings of provinces in each seven equipmentmanufacturing industries and the whole equipment manufacturingcompetitiveness in the national rankings. The results show that inequipment manufacturing of Tianjin, Electronics and telecommunicationsindustry, and fabricated metal products equipment manufacturingindustry have obvious advantages, and the transportation equipmentmanufacturing industry and the instrumentation and Cultural office inmanufacturing industry have comparative advantages.At last, on the basis of both qualitative and quantitative analyzes,Select the key industries of equipment manufacturing industry from theseven markets, and make suggestions to enhance the equipmentmanufacturing industry in Tianjin.
