Since1978, the economic structural reform makes China the biggest country whose economies are in transition. In the economy-transition period, Chinese companies have developed the ability to simultaneously pursue both incremental and discontinuous innovation and change, which we called strategic ambidexterity. In recent years, Scholars at home and abroad have analyzed how ambidexterity can affect the performance and obtained series of instructive results. On the base of the research about the antecedents, consequences, and mediating role of organizational ambidexterity, we try to put the economy-transition factors into the antecedents of strategic ambidexterity and pursue the factors that might affect strategic ambidexterity.Companies in China have always contacted with the government, and the political ties with government may become the most important social capital. It can affect the managers’ability to make decisions and the dynamic capabilities of the organizations. Based on this, we try to find out the influence of political ties to strategic ambidexterity. Similarly, the governance mechanisms in companies, which decide the structure, context, and the feature of TMT, also can be an important factor that affects strategic ambidexterity. We chose the ratio of managerial ownership and the ratio of independent directors, and examined the affection of these two ratios to ambidexterity.Based on a sample of349manufacturing and IT industry firms, we find the evidence for the hypothesis. Political ties with government is positively related to strategic ambidexterity, the ratio of independent directors is also positively related to strategic ambidexterity, strategic ambidexterity is significantly related to the performance, the difference of ownership property can affect strategic ambidexterity, the ratio of managerial ownership is not significantly related to strategic ambidexterity. Finally, we made the proposal to coordinate the strategic decision-making and the environment.
