| Abstract:The spatial agglomeration of regional economic is a common phenomenon, and it concerns the coordinated development of regional economy. Therefore, it has important significance in promoting coordinated development of regional economy, to reveal current situation of regional economic clusters and its driving forces.The traditional methods of regional economy ignores the effects of spatial.The Spatial Economics provides a geospatial perspective for the analysis of regional.By the unique spatial analysis methods of GIS, it is possible to reveal space characteristics of regional economy and reflect spatial relationship of cluster formation and its driving forces.This paper investigates the spatial agglomeration of regional economic in Sichuan at the county level, and based on Spatial Economics theory and GIS technology. First, the spatial agglomeration characteristics of regional economy in Sichuan are revealed. Based on traditional theory of regional economy, some methods are used to explore feature of regional economy concentration, such as the concentration index, the geographical contact ratio index and the location entropy. From the perspective of spatial pattern change and spatial agglomeration relationship, the spatial agglomeration characteristics of regional economy in Sichuan are revealed by spatial autocorrelation model. Secondly, the driving forces of spatial agglomeration are analyzed. Considering the exogenous and endogenous factors about agglomeration, evaluation index system of spatial agglomeration is established based on existing agglomeration indicators and characteristics of spatial agglomeration in Sichuan. With the GIS space analysis method’s support, analysis models are established in order that indices could be described in space. Based on the analysis models above, the effects of three factors on spatial concentration are studied, such as natural conditions, centripetal force and centrifugal force.The study finds that the regional economic in Sichuan show "center-periphery" pattern in space and its gathering center is Chengdu Economic Zone. With the development of economic, the spatial agglomeration feature of regional economic show "multi-center" pattern. Besides Chengdu, gathering centers include Panzhihua in PanXi Economic Zone and Yibin-Luzhou in South of Sichuan Economic Zone. But these gathering centers don’t have enough influence on the surrounding regions compared to Chengdu. Further research shows that different gathering centers are formed by different driving forces. The exogenous forces play a significant role in gathering process at early stage, such as Chengdu Economic Zone which develops rapidly these years benefiting from good natural conditions. Gradually, the endogenous forces gradually play a leading role in gathering process with economic development. As examples, gathering center of Panxi economic zone and South Sichuan economic zone owe a lot to the centripetal force. |
