The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is an instrument of positive change incompanies. It defines the framework and the way in which a company must work to meetthe expectations of society concerning companies in the ethical, legal, commercial andpublic aspects. This work is a starting point for looking at companies to define new legalsolutions for its customers which has representations of society and the firm. CSR hasmajor stakes which are particularly related to a renewal of the vision of the firm and itsplace and role in society. I deal with these issues by examining stakeholder theory, whichplays a prominent role in CSR research and which practices largely refer to. In my view, itclearly reflects possible shortcomings of CSR, eventually leading to a rather classicaleconomic and free market-driven view of the firm and its relations to society. The paperpinpoints the weight of the contextual approach, which greatly limits the renewalsexpected form of CSR. There is a wide gap between CSR sociopolitical stakes and theavailable theoretical foundations for research.
