Analysis of the current land use is the basic for utilization, Planning and scientific manage of land resource. Remote sensing technology has features such as wide-region, real time monitoring, periodical information, and comprehensive information. This study will use high resolution SPOT-5image to extract the information and GIS to analyze the characteristics of the urban residential land utilization. Provide reliable, timely and accurate land data for the departments.First, made a correct and judge of SPOT-5image of the study area, analyze the spectral characteristics of different urban construction lands and the background of the different types of surface features based on the a priori knowledge and pick up the urban residential land used the decision tree.Second, combine the land use diagram, each kind of special subject research result, order to carry on characteristic analysis of the urban residential land from the quantitative characteristics, spatial distribution and structural characteristics...etc.Last, give some suggestions to solve the problems of the urban residential land based on the results of the above analysis and the latest policy of the state.Using RS and GIS on the status of the study area of residential land survey found that the urgent need to transform the villages within the city limits area of21282553.37m2, accounting for4.51%of the plain area of the study area, through the Altitude levels analysis、Solope analysis、Aspect analysis, there are some shortcomings in the land of the mountain settlements of the study area, constitutes a threat to the amount of arable land and ecological environment.
