The Testing And Mechanism Of The Spatial Club Convergence Of Regional Economic Growth

In recent years, with the development of the theory of new economic geography in recent years, the attribute of the space of the club convergence is gradually taken seriously. However, the academic study of the space club convergence is actually still a field which is in the beginning period. The vast majority of literature on the space club convergence limited to test existence of space club convergence but little involved about what is the theoretical basis for the identification of space club convergence, how to define the space club convergence and how the space club convergence formed and so on. Therefore, the significance of this paper is trying to solve the above mentioned problems using the northeast China regions which domestic and international research literature pay little attentions as research objectivities. firstly, proposes the concept of space club convergence of this article on the basis of endogenous growth theory and new economic geography theory which provides reference for the identification of the space club convergence and formation mechanism of the framework. In the next of the paper, our study systemically distinguish the northeast China’s space club convergence and probe the forming mechanism under the guidance of the identification and forming mechanism of the framework constructed above.Therefore, the main contents and conclusion of this paper are as follows:(1) The regional step of testing space club convergence is regional classification to examine convergence. After discussing of the regional classification methods through comparing the advantages and disadvantages of related methods, Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis has been deemed that it to be the suitable method to divide space regional groups.(2) In this paper, we use the Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis to divide the Northeast china region into four different regions of space groups, HH group, HL Group, LL group and LH group. by comparing the annual number of regions owned to the various regional groups, the proportion of the number of regions within the HH group shows a clear upward trend, while the proportion of the number of regions within the LL group shows downward trend, this also shows that the number of higher level of development regions increasing year by year, while the number of lower level of development regions is generally on the decline trend.(3) First, we divided the whole time period into1990-2002time period and2003-2010time period according to the tendency of the Moran’sl index, which was ascend in first and descend at last.Then chooses suitable spatial error model or spatial autoregressive model and spatial cross-regressive model to test space club convergence in the same group, showing that there exist obvious space convergence clubs in the HH group and LL group.(4)considering that space club convergence as one type of convergence and also simultaneously considering its individualism and Chinese characteristics, we studies the forming mechanism of the space club convergence in the northeast China by using the methods from putting forwards hypothesizes to examine them. The forming mechanism of Northeast china space club convergence can be stated that economic initial conditions, economic structure factor and location factor are three factors which affect the conformations of space club convergence, market forces, government force are two forces which affect the conformations of space club convergence. Then the alone functions of three factors and under collaborative market force and government force cause growth agglomeration of regions which adjacent areas, with the degree of agglomeration increase, these aggregations emerge convergence due to the local geographic spillovers and then form space club convergence.The innovation and deficiencies of this paper are listed as follow:The innovation of the paper(1) Our study definite the concept of space club convergence on the basis of previous research literature.(2) The control variables of the economic factors are forced into the models which testing the identification and forming mechanism space club convergence, which is much more close to the nature of the space club convergence than that previous studies which only consider the aspects of space in the testing of space club convergence.(3) The paper analyzed northeast China’s prefecture-level city data instating of the province data, which avoid the sexual deviations.The deficiencies of the paper(1) Due to the limitations of Spatial Econometrics, the establishment of the spatial weight matrix can’t combine the space and economic factors perfectly. Consider combining economic factors into the spatial weight matrix and exogenous spatial weight matrix is stable need for Spatial Econometrics development.(2)The forming mechanism of space club convergence requires further studied.
