With the development of globalization, the increase of comprehensive nationalstrength, the change of the structure of labor force and the enhancement of people’seducation, the employees cognitive to the inequality of power distribution (it is usuallycalled power distance)also changed. Power distance reflects the employees’ reliance tomanagers. The dependence is reflected in both the functions and emotional aspects. It isimportant to know the present power distance of our country for management to master theeffective management style.Sorting ever literature and data, we definite function distance and emotional distanceand formulated questionnaire for this study. According to the results of theoretical analysisand factor analysis, the function distance is divided into four aspects, participation,supervision and control, following and authority, the liability. Emotional distance isdivided into two dimensions, the contact out of work, employees care and emotionmotivation.According to the statistical results of questionnaire, we calculated the functiondistance index, emotional distance index and power distance index, and detailed thecalculation formula. At the same time, we find that the living area, education level,organization nature, organization scale and position type can significantly explain thedifferences of individual power distance. But the individual power distance from differentage groups and different professions and different positions level did not show significantdifference.The power distance of the individuals did not change significantly with theincrease of length of service.According to the employees’ function distance and emotional distance, themanagement style the employees expected can be summarized as patriarchal, designedformats, shepherd type and mart type. At present, the management style the mostemployees expect is shepherd type, not patriarchal. This will provide a theoreticalreference for the change of the current management style.
