Chinese economy has increased high-speedly since the reform and opening-up.But now the serious consequences have been revealed of the development model of high-growth, low employment, high consumption and low output in China. It is not likely to last long relying on such a development model to realize our country economy sustained, stable and high-speed development." To speed up the transformation of the mode of economic development" request to change from the original "extensive" growth to "intensive" growth, which must promote the progress of science and technology and innovation, strengthen the creative ability of science and technology. Research and development (R&D) activities is the core of the activities of science and technology, is the source of innovation, and plays a key role in technology innovation. Researching the contribution for R&D input structure elements to economic growth has the great significance to promote to transform to the "intensive" growth. This paper describes the present situation of R&D activities and the problems existing in the use of R&D funds by using1987-2009R&D input and GDP data, and calculates the economic growth contribution of R&D input. Based on this, it explores the R&D input structure elements on economic growth contribution. Get the following core conclusion:In China investment growth rate in basic research contributes3.88%to GDP growth rate, applied research accountes for5.09%of GDP growth rate, and the contribution of the investment growth rate in experimental development is only0.41%. However, experimental development input proportion is as high as82.75%, which shows that the proportion of each part of our R&D input structure and their contribution on the economic growth almost instead, and states clearly that R&D input structure in China is unreasonable, going against the sustainable stable development of our scientific and technology and economy. China should increase the intensity of R&D investment, reasonablely arrange R&D investment structure, increase the proportion of basic research investment, and should full play the guiding role of government to R&D investment.
