As an important part of animal husbandry, the beef cattle industry has a very important significance on improving people’s diet structure, increasing farmers’ income, meeting the consumer demand of people, promoting the employment of rural labor force, developing the rural economy and promoting the development of related industries. Since the reform and opening up, China’s beef cattle industry has achieved rapid development, but the seed of China’s Beef Cattle level is low, varieties mixed and the shortage of beef cattle, especially since2006, cows decreased by a big margin and the slow growth in beef production, in this case, the beef cattle industry by what means to cope with changes in market demand and how to achieve the steady growth of the beef production is the problem faced by the beef cattle industry in China. Therefore, analyze the factors of growth in beef production and find out the motivation to promote the growth in beef production have a great significance for speeding up the growth in beef production.This article combines with the development status of China’s Beef Industry, has analyzed the overall situation of the beef cattle industry development, make the theory of economic growth and technical efficiency theory as the theoretical basis, using historical analysis, comparative analysis and descriptive statistics analysis to analyze the process of beef production growth in China. Using Cobb-Douglas production function and HMB index estimates the Impact on growth in beef production by factor inputs and total factor productivity.This article is divided into five chapters, main contents and conclusions are as follows:The first chapter is a foreword, make an introduction of the background and significance of this article, review the relevant literature, present a systematic exposition of the theoretical basis this paper based on, and describe the research goals, content and research methods.The second chapter analyzes the overall situation of China’s Beef Industry Development. The beef cattle industry has experienced the early stages of development of the beef cattle industry, stage of rapid development of the beef cattle industry and the adjustment of the beef cattle industry development stage. The beef industry occupies a pivotal position in China’s agriculture and animal husbandry, and it plays an important role in promoting farmers’ income, developing the rural economy, meet the people’s consumption needs and the development of related industries. At present, China has formed four main producing area, they are central plains producing area, northeast producing area, northwest producing area and southwest producing areas. China’s beef production technology level is low, production capacity limit, the quality of beef products is low and lack of high-grade beef.China’s beef production growth process is analyzed in Chapter Ⅲ. The total output of China’s beef showed a rapid growth, the slaughter rate grow exponentially. The beef production of the four main beef producing areas have changed, the beef production of Northeast beef cattle producing areas has developed rapidly in recent years, the beef production has dropped slightly in the Central Plains, western beef cattle area is relatively stable, national yields growth has slewed down in recent years, a variety of input factors for beef cattle production has also undergone a great change.In the fourth chapter, using Cobb-Douglas production function model estimate the input-output of the eight main beef producing provinces from1991to2010, the results show that, changes in the number of labor days almost have no effect on beef production, output elasticity of the other three variable of descending, respectively, the newborn animal weight, the number of concentrated feed, and other expenses, in the case of other conditions remain unchanged, the increase of these three elements alone will bring a certain extent of the growth of output. Obtained between the years1991-2010on the basis of analysis yields source of growth, the growth of beef yields is mainly from the increase in inputs, and its contribution to the growth of yields is78.78percent, concentrate feed has the maximum contribution to yields growth. The contribution of total factor productivity to yield growth is21.22percent. This article using HMB index method made decomposition and estimates of total factor productivity, the results show that from1991to2010, the improvement of the total factor productivity of beef production relies on technical progress and technical efficiency; the mixing efficiency also played a certain role, the effect of the scale efficiency is not significantly.Chapter five draw conclusions, and made the following recommendations:To meet the demand for beef market and achieve stable growth in beef production, first of all is the effective implementation of the beef supporting fattening; second, improve the breeding system, and vigorously carry out the crossbreeding of beef cattle; finally, the State should introduce of further relevant policies to support the development of beef cattle industry.
