Research On The Influence Factors Of Technology Spillovers Of Service FDI In China

Since the1980s, with the adjustment of industrial structure and the acceleration of the liberalization of service sector around the world, the service sector has been the mainstream in the field of international direct investment. As the carrier of technology transfer, there have been a lot of FDI researches on China’s manufacturing technology progress but few on service sector. In2011, FDI in service sector had surpassed manufacturing sector for the first time. Therefore, the study of technology spillovers of FDI in service sector is of great practical significance.Firstly, the dissertation has a detailed description of the history and status quo of FDI in service sector, and analyses the inflow region of FDI of service sector and internal structure of the industry.Secondly, the thesis constructs a two party model (one is the host country, the other is the investor) of technology spillover effects, and then analyzes the factors that affect technology spillover from both parties separately. Moreover, the thesis also analyzes the spillover mechanism and establishes an econometric model to be used in the following empirical research on the basis of a referenced model. Since there are some differences between services and manufacturing, this dissertation also makes some appropriate analysis on FDI technology spillovers and its mechanism between them. Utilizing the panel data methods with the consideration of14typical service industries and26cities from2004to2011in China, this paper estimates the TFP (total factor productivity) of services sector and analyses the factors of technology spillovers from services FDI. The result indicates that human capital-infrastructure construction, the degree of opening economy, the level of rule and the degree of market liberalization are the important regional factors. Besides, the salaries of labors, enterprise scale and the intensity of the industry are the industrial characteristics which impact the FDI technology spillover.In the end, the dissertation comes to the conclusions and puts forward suggestions of services sector for our government and companies. At the same time, it also points out the insufficiency of this paper and the place that should be devoted to expanding.
