Because of the importance and particularity of the banking industry, the relationship between the corporate governance and the performance of commercial banks has been a hot issue in these years. As the foundation of corporate governance, ownership structure has raised lots of attention from scholars. It is also one of the key factors determining the operation and management mechanism of the commercial banks. Establishing a reasonable and efficient ownership structure is the first important thing to do to better the commercial bank governance system. In order to improve the management mechanism and to enhance the comprehensive competitive strength, the research of the relationship between the ownership structure and bank performance has unignorable influence to the real economy.Among the literature in this area, there are lots of valuable research findings, but they also need to be improved. At present, most researches are based on macroscopic, abstract theories, which discuss the relationship between the ownership structure and bank performance directly according to economic theories, but barely refers to the realistic effect path. Thus, this paper will analyze the topic from two different perspectives, which are the theory perspective and the microscopic loan behavior perspective. The former is the theory foundation and the latter is the realistic effect path, both of which make the research foundation more strong and complete. There are six chapters in this paper. The first chapter is the introduction, including the background and significance of the research, question raised, research method, content structure and study innovation. The second chapter is the literature review. The third chapter analyzes the relationship between the ownership structure and the performance of Chinese commercial banks on the basis of the principal-agent theory and the theory of property and propounds hypotheses of this research. The forth chapter analyzes how ownership structure affects bank performance from the loan behavior perspective. The fifth chapter is empirical analysis, building the econometrics model. This paper chooses16listed banks as samples, collecting data from2006to2011.The result of this research shows that there is negative correlation between ownership concentration and bank performance, so is government ownership percentage and bank performance. The sixth chapter is the conclusion, suggestions and the expectation to the future research.
