With the accelerating process of the world’s economicglobalization, all country’s foreign trade has become increasinglyactive as a node of the main channel of the flow of goods, as well asan important hub port of domestic and international exchanges, andalso is playing an irreplaceable important role in this process. Theport, with its unique advantages of geographical resources, is notonly playing a role in bearing inner and outer, but also promotingregional industrial structure optimization constantly to make regionaleconomy develop owing to the port’s development. Meanwhile, regional economic development has improved the port’s operationalcapability and economic benefits. The port’s development is closelylinked with the regional economic development; therefore, to assessthe contribution of the port to regional economic developmentreasonably is particularly important.China is the largest developing country in the world, whose landterritory is facing the sea, and the mainland coast baseline is up to18,000km, so China is one of the countries that have longestcoastline and most ports. Since the reform and opening-up, theeconomic development of the coastal port makes an extremely important contribution to China’s entirely economic development. This paper, based on the economic geographical theory as a guidance, has analyzed the formation and development and the features ofChina’s eastern coastal port clusters, adopting the research methodof "input-output" to study the efficiency and economic contribution byusing three input indexes of comprehensive technical efficiency, puretechnical efficiency value and scale efficiency value. This paperobtains that the final demand of the port industry is of great help inpromoting the national economic development, but there still existsthe problem of low technical efficiency, no scale efficiency, etc. Thus, the suggestions on improving and promoting the development of theports to China’s economy are proposed.
