With the development of China’s economy, the tourism industry, as a sunrise industry, hasgradually become a pillar industry in China’s economic development, accelerating the developmentof the transportation, catering industry, the construction industry, the entertainment industry andother related industries. However, because of its later but rapid development, China’s tourismindustry has led to some problems, such as the disorder of the tourism market, the lower quality ofemployees, the repeated construction of tourist attractions and unstable operating efficiency of thetravel company.This paper shows empirical research from the operating performance of listed tourismcompanies, and discusses the problems occurred. Based on research methods about the travelcompanies, this paper uses the traditional performance analysis methods after introduction aboutrelated concepts about tourism. First, the article’s core part is about the analysis of drawbacks attowards the development of China’s tourism industry. Second, after selecting the eight financialindicators from2004to2011, including operating capabilities, profitability, capacity, developmentand the solvency, This paper quantitatively describes the development trends and status of tourismin recent years, and then, from the microscopic aspects, finds those inadequacies of these listedtourism companies’ financial operations. Third, By the use of SPSS13.0statistical software, thispaper shows the principal component regression analysis, and finds out the differences among thethree types of companies in tourist spot, hotel, and general works. At last, through the analyzedproblems, this paper proposes some reasonable suggestions towards different features of differenttypes of listed tourism companies.The innovation point of this research lies in the fact that it analyzes the operating performanceof listed tourism companies from the combination of different dimensions, from vertical andhorizontal research method. Vertically, this paper is on the basis of the financial data from2004to2011, analyzes the general trend of tourism enterprise development, not just confined to thequalitative analysis theory. Horizontally, by selecting financial indicators in2011, this paper usesSPSS13.0software to on study empirically the different types of tourism performance of differentlisted tourism companies. The research is much more objective.
