Research On The Competitiveness Of China’s Joint-Stock Commercial Banks From Structure Perspective

In recent years, the joint-stock commercial banks in China have developed rapidly, whosemarket share is rising and management is improving gradually and they have made greatcontribution to the maintenance of financial stability, promoting economic development in ourcountry, meeting the people’s growing financial demands. However, under the background ofeconomic globalization and financial liberalization, the financial market competition is not onlyfiercer and fiercer but also the development of the joint-stock commercial banks in China has bothopportunities and challenges. So studying how to improve the competence of joint-stockcommercial banks has become an important topic.This thesis takes the12joint-stock commercial banks in China as the research object and formsmacro and micro two-dimensional analysis framework from the aspects of exterior market structureand internal capital structure, using the methods of literature study, inductive analysis and empiricalresearch, based on the theory of competitiveness and starting from the point of structure. On thisbasis, this thesis analyzes the mechanism of action which is formed from market structure andcapital structure to commercial banks competitiveness, then uses relevant data of joint-stockcommercial banks in China in recent years. Through the market share, market concentration,product differentiation, ownership structure and debt structure, it indicates that our present bankingindustry market concentration is relatively higher and has obvious characteristics of oligopoly; theownership concentration of joint-stock commercial banks is high and most of them are controlledby country; asset-liability ratio is too high and lack of innovative liability business. Finally, putforward the countermeasures of improving the joint-stock commercial banks competitiveness.
