The Competitiveness Research Of China Urban Commercial Banks

As the product of deepening the reform of the financial system in China, city commercialbanks survive in the cracks, and seek a breakthrough in innovation. While deepening the reform,we gradually formed a necessary road suited to their own scale expansion, and is actively lookingfor business innovation fields. With the significant achievements, we also are facing huge crisisand challenges. So how to enhance the competitiveness of city commercial banks become the focusof attention, and the research for the competitiveness of Chinese city commercial banks hassignificant research values and important practical significances.In this paper, we build a scientific and reasonable competitiveness evaluation index systemfor commercial banks. We selected20representative indicators from the reality competitivenessand the potential core competitiveness appraisal system, and selected10representative citycommercial banks,5large state-owned commercial banks and6high-profile joint-stockcommercial banks, and obtained the quantitative indicator datum of these banks from their2011annual reports, and obtained the qualitative indicator datum by questionnaire survey form. Factoranalysis was carried out on the selected indexes, we got the factor scores, the composite scores andranking a list for the three types of banks’ competitiveness, then obtained the factors that affect thecompetitiveness of city commercial banks. Finally, according to the empirical results, wesummarized a number of recommendations and countermeasures to enhance the competitiveness ofChinese city commercial banks.The paper is divided into six parts, the first section dealing with the background andsignificance of the research, and have a comprehensive commentary on the results at home andabroad; second part defined the concepts of city commercial banks, competitiveness, thecompetitiveness of enterprises, the competitiveness of commercial banks and the related concepts,talked about the WEF and the IMD national competitiveness theory, the theoretical foundation ofthe Porter’s competitiveness theory, theory of core competitiveness, including the competitivenessof banks of city commercial banks; the third section describes the course of development of theurban commercial banks, the development status of the city commercial banks, and the advantagesand disadvantages of city commercial banks’ competitiveness; in the fourth section, we selected20indicators which are in conformity with the construction principles of the city commercial bankscompetitiveness evaluation index system and select representative bank data for factors analysis,and find out that the city commercial banks have already have strong competitiveness, while the potential core competence is the determinant factor for the development of commercial banks’competitiveness; the fifth part based on the results of empirical analysis,we put forwardsuggestions and countermeasure for enhancing the competitiveness of Chinese commercial banks,including to improve the internal governance structure of city commercial banks, to intensifyinstitutional innovation of the city commercial banks, to have scientific market positioning, and tostrengthen human resources management; part VI is conclusion.In this paper, we use the method combining comparative analysis, normative analysis andempirical analysis with qualitative analysis and quantitative. We use the disclosed quantitativeindicators data from the annual report of the commercial banks, and obtain the qualitative indicatordata by questionnaire survey form. We use charts, formulas and other ways to analysis thecompetitiveness of city commercial banks. The competitiveness of Chinese city commercial bankshas been comprehensively and systematicly studied and discussed, and we draw some drawimportant conclusions.
