The expansion of domestic demand, we often discussed, means increasing the consumption rate, rather than a simple increase in the absolute amount of consumption. Expanding the demand of rural residents’ consumption is desperately needed. However, there are lots of factors affecting rural residents’consumption, and at the present stage, a good starting point to study such the problem may be to contact the consumption issue with demographic structure issues, such as aging of populations and imbalance of sex ratio.Firstly, the early demographic and consumption theory was elaborated systematically, as well as studies on the influential factors of rural residents consumption rate, however, in past studies what has been understood not thoroughly was that demographic structure was often overlooked or even though having been considered with population age structure, the rural residents’ consumption rate and rural demographic structure were both not analyzed clearly and enough. Therefore, the environment and the influential factors of rural residents’consumption and the concept and the classification of rural demographic structure were demonstrated in more detail. Obviously, the main object of this paper is rural demographic nature structure containing population age structure and population sex structure. And what’s more, the mechanism of the impact of demographic natural structure to rural residents’ consumption rate was tried to illustrate.Secondly, in order to facilitate the empirical analysis, the environment of rural residents’consumption and rural demographic structure from Shandong Province and its17cities in2000-2010were taken as sample, and statistical description was implemented after indicators choosing and data selection. Next, starting from the classical Life Cycle Hypothesis, the pros and cons of such problems with panel regression models were compared and discussed, and then a simple linear consumption function was built which was including population age structure and population sex structure, and so on. After the sample inspection and the comparison of various estimates, the estimation method of the ordinary clustering robust fixed effects model was determined to choose and to estimate the panel data from Shandong Province, its eastern region, its central region and its western region respectively. The empirical results show that what affects and constraints together the low rate of rural residents’ consumption in Shandong Province and its cities are all of its social environment factors:demographic nature structure including population age structure and population sex structure, economic factors including the price level and the growth rate of net income, financial factors including financial development and financial efficiency, and institutional factors including the policy of the financial support for agricultural and the income difference between urban and rural. The possible causes behind these factors were pointed out adding in She back. In the last part of this paper, the conclusions and the revelation are summarized and recommended.
