Peaple have had a clear understanding of vortex beams, with the depth understanding ofthe light ,especially after laser producted. When the phase of the light waves have singularpoints which can not be defined, and the light intensity of the singular points is zero, then thephase around this singular point is spiral distribution, whose direction is perpendicular to thedirection of propagation, then optical vortices formed. As a branch of optics, optical vorticesattract much attention for their application aspects. This kind of special optical field has beenapplied in many fields, that include optical communication, optical electronic, remotesensing, atom trapping and quantum information processing. In this paper,we explored the background, present condition of optical vortex, introducted the fundamental theory of opticalvortices and studied some interferences of optical vortex field and methods of formingdifferent vortex beams.Themajor contents in this paper include the following four parts:一、The main developments and the main application of the optical vortices arereviewed, also the major contents and the purpose of the paper are summarized.二、The fundamental theory of optical vortices is introducted.First,we introducted theforming principle of vortex beams, and summarized the formation principle and characteristicsof some common votex beams, such as ideal optical vortex, planar vortex beam, ring opticalvortex,L-G beam and higher order bessel beam.etc.The methods of forming L-G beam andhigher order bessel beam are introducted. Finally we analysised the orbital angular momentumof optical vorteices and the transmission characteristics.三、Analysis of several different vortex beam superposition, such as the interference ofthe plane wave and vortex beams, spherical wave and the interference of the vortex beam, ringplane optical vortex lines superimposed, two plane-beam optical vortex superposition, interference of the light field of the ring vortex. By changing the nuclear topology, the waistradius, the background light field amplitude analysis of the composite vortex optical field complex amplitude and intensity distribution, variety of composite vortex beams generated bychanging the superposition of the vortex intensity, phase, vortex center location.四、Speckle pattern of the vortex beam is introducted. Studies have shown thatcompletely the scattering intensity of the speckle pattern of the whole polarization is negativeexponential probability density distribution, which has maximum when the intensity is zero. Aprecision of zero intensity in the light field of a point is a possible occurrence of the event doesoccur. This chapter discussesed the zero intensity of the required conditions and the nature ofthe speckle intensity near zero phase, the vortex density in the speckle.
