In the process of coal production, the exploitation of coal seam can form more and more underground coal mined-out areas. The collapse of mined-out areas will cause the ground to sink and split, destroy cultivated land and buildings, damage the ecological environment. Therefore, it’s urgently need to explore and evaluate the location and scope of coal mined-out areas. In recent years, it’s the focus of many geophysical workers’study that how effectively and economically to use geophysical methods to produce good economic benefit and social benefit. As a whole, although a lot of practical results were got, it’s still in development stage for the prospecting research of mined-out areas and it’s not perfect in exploration theory and technique. The successful experience and data accumulation on the research in china and aboard mainly include collecting data, investigation, drilling, laboratory test and numerical simulation, and so on.The thesis is based on the exploration of Jingfang Colliery mined-out areas in Changzhi, Shanxi Province, tried to carry on the effectiveness analysis and research of mined-out areas by transient electromagnetic method, shallow seismic reflection method, induced polarization method.Firstly, we elaborated the basic theory, influence factors and characteristics of the transient electromagnetic method, shallow seismic reflection method and induced polarization method, and then we knew the abnormal response of mined-out areas under different geological conditions by the forward numerical simulation of transient electromagnetic method and shallow seismic reflection method, it Provided a theoretical basis for the correct identification of coal mined-out areas.We used three methods to explore coal mined-out areas and explained the original data after we knew well the geology, topography and geophysical characteristics in the work areas. Finally, we summarized the practicability and validity of the exploration of coal mined-out areas, and put forward suggestions for the future work.
