Typhoon Disaster Assessment In Shandong Province During1985-2010Based On GIS

Typhoon is a kind of natural disasters which occurs frequently in ShandongProvince and the damage induced by typhoon is significant. In the present paper, therisk assessment of disasters induced by typhoons in Shandong Province has beencarried out on the basis of the analyses to the historical data during1985-2010. Inorder to reduce the impact of the social and economical development status on theevaluation results in various periods, the normalized evaluation method were used toanalyze the annual typhoon-induced damage in the concerned period. The quantitativecomprehensive index is proposed with fuzzy mathematics, and the effect of typhoon-induced disasters is systematically investigated with the proposed index.Storm surge is one of the most impotent hazard factor of the disaster induced bytyphoon. ADCIRC ocean model is used to numerical storm surge simulation in thispaper. The simulation results indicate that the storm surge induced by typhoon isrelative to the intensity category, tracks of typhoons and the geography features of thecoastal region and present a significant regional differences.In order to combine the damage induced by typhoon with human and socialfactors and geography features a risk assessment system of disasters induced bytyphoons in Shandong Province is established on the basis of a GIS platform, andfurther is comprehensively analyzed with the its help. The assessment results indicatethat the normalized damage and the comprehensive influence induced by typhoonpresents the downward trend year by year and the regional differences with thesignificant temporal-spatial characteristics. In the analyses to the various hazardfactors, the assessment results indicate that the when these three hazard factors occurduring the same typhoon there will be a significant damage.This study focus on the multiple impact and various hazard factors induced bytyphoon, in the analyses to the impact induced by typhoon and its temporalcharacteristics of the typhoons inducing disasters in Shandong Province during1985-2010, the damage induced by typhoon is combined with various hazard factors,human and social factors, temporal and regional differences. The results of thepresent study are expected to be beneficial to the disaster prevention and mitigation incoastal regions of Shandong Province.
