The study of laser materials has never ceased since the advent of the first laser inthe world, as a new kind of laser materials, transparent laser ceramics have receivedgreat attention. Lanthanum lead zirconate titanate (PLZT) ceramics, as the secondgeneration of ceramic materials, have got the favor of the researchers in variouscountries, not only because it has significant electro-optic effect, excellent thermal andmechanical properties, high transparency and a wide range of light through, but alsobecause it is easy to manufacture in a low cost, the emergence of this material mayredefine the market of solid laser in the future.2.0μm laser source is a hotspot in thestudy of laser source, because2.0μm laser is the best wavelength in laser surgery due toit is close to the absorption peak of water (1.93μm), which indicates that thedevelopment of a portable, compact laser medical equipment in2.0μm will haveimportant significance. In addition,2.0μm laser can be widely used in spaceexploration and optical communication due to it is in the atmospheric window. In thisthesis, the electro-optic properties and optical amplification at2.0μm in Ho3+/Tm3+double doped PLZT transparent ceramics were studied. The electro-optic properties of Ho3+/Tm3+double doped PLZT transparentceramics was studied firstly. The second chapter of this thesis details the phase diagramof PLZT at room temperature, and the dielectric temperature spectrum of Ho3+/Tm3+doped PLZT transparent ceramics was measured, and then focus on the quadraticelectro-optic effect for532nm632.8nm and1064nm, larger quadratic electro-opticcoefficient was found in PLZT, witch provides a foundation in the domain of opticaldevices applications.Secondly, the infrared luminescent properties of PLZT transparent ceramics wasinvestigated and the possibility of being laser material was analyzed. Absorption spectra, fluorescence spectra and fluorescence lifetime were measured in differentconcentrations of rare earth ions doped PLZT transparent ceramics in the aspect ofexperiment study. The oscillator strength parameters, spontaneous emission rate, branching ratio were calculated by J-O theory, based on the absorption spectra. Theresult indicates that Ho3+/Tm3+doped PLZT transparent ceramics have good infraredluminescent properties and can be used as infrared laser materials in terms of theory. Finally, the optical amplification property at2.0μm of Ho3+/Tm3+doped PLZTtransparent ceramics was studied, witch focus on the gain factor’s changing rules withthe change of seed power, pumping power and the temperature of pumping laser.
