Throughout the ancient history of China, the15th century BC to the1st century BC,the Chinese civilization learned and applied natural knowledge to the practical demandvery effective effectively than that of Western civilization. However, the question of whymodern science and civilization only occur in the civilization of Europe but not in that ofChina (or India) becomes a hot topic for debate and research in the international scientificcommunity as the Great Divergence raised by Needham.The Ancient Greeks set the foundation for modern Western science, math, culture andpolitics. Science in Ancient Greece was based on logical thinking and mathematics. Itinspired the modern science from three aspects of the theory of knowledge, the scientificmethod and the scientific spirit. However, In China, the ancient science is based on thepractical experience which lack rationality. During the development of science, it is theintrinsic reason of why the birth of modern science is not in our country. Ancient Chinapolitical and economic factors led to the lack of rational science in ancient China, and alsobecame the external factors for preventing the development of modern science. Thingschange according to the internal and external factors.This article focuses on the fundamental reasons for Chinese modern science fallingbehind the Western modern science. And then it tries to analyze them within traditionalChinese philosophy, social and cultural environment, education system, as well associo-political economic system and other aspects. This paper uses logical induction,logical proof method to find the answers, analysis and discuss the basic cause.
