Guangfulin site is an important prehistoric site located in the southwest of Shanghai. The prehistoric remains last from Songze period to Guangfulin period. The analysis in this paper is based on part of the flotation results of the2012excavation project. Flotation samples which cover from Liangzhu period to Guangfulin period were collected during the excavation from the section charged by Shandong University. The systematic flotation project brought plenty of plant remains in order to discuss the subsistence of the prehistoric Guangfulin ancestors, rice farming and plant utilization.The dissertation is divided into six parts.Part I Introduction. In this part, the development of archaeobotany in China and the subsistence research from Majiabang period to Guangfulin period in Lake Tai region are reviewed.Part II Background. In this part, Guangfulin site, its natural environment and archaeological cultures are briefly introduced.Part III Materials and Methods. In this part, the sampling methods, identification of plant remains and the statistic methods are described.Part IV Results and Analysis. Abundant charcoal, seeds, fruits and other plant remains are identified in the laboratory, and different methods, such as Absolute counts, Ubiquity and Density, are applied in the analysis.Part V Discussions. Several questions are discussed.1) discussion of rice remains with the data of rice/seeds ratio and rice spike let bases;2) discussion of gathering with the data of seeds and fruits;3) discussion of the subsistence of different period with the assemblage of plants and tools.Part VI Conclusions. A brief summary of the dissertation and the possible improvement.
