Alginate fibers, which were prepared by sodium alginate extracted from brownseaweed, have many superior properties, such as bacteriostasis, high moisture absorption,easy removal from wound, high oxygen penetration, biodegradation absorption andbiocompatibility. It was widely used medical textile. This paper prepared the alginate fiberscontaining silver by electrospinning, whose antibacterial property were confirmed by test.The research of the optimal spinning parameters of preparing the fibers has certaindirective significance for development and application of the electrospinning of sodiumalginate fibers containing silver.Sodium alginate was selected as raw material. Firstly, test spinning was done by usingmany different spinning solution systems, such as SA/deionized water,SA/glycerol/deionized water, SA/PEO/deionized water, SA/PEO/absolute ethylalcohol/deionized water, SA/PVA/deionized water. Through the test spinning, the basisspinning solution system was identified as the SA/PVA/deionized water. At the same time,the concentration of SA and PVA were determined. Then the nanometer silver colloid wasadded in the solution with different mixing ration, and the surface tension and electricalconductivity of the solution were tested.Through the electrospinning of SA/PVAcontaining silver, the effects of blending ratiobetween SA and PVA, silver content, applied voltage, flow rate of solution and collectingdistance on the morphology, the fineness and the diameter distribution of the fiber werestudied. The optimal spinning parameters were obtained, and electrspinning fibers ofalginate containing silver were prepared. The optimal spinning parameters were as follows:the concentration of SA was4wt%, the concentration of PVA was10wt%, the mass ratioof SA/PVA was2:8, silver content was0.1%, applied voltage was20Kv, flow rate was0.1ml/h, collecting distance was12cm, temperature was25~30℃, the relative humiditywas40~50RH%.The effects of spinning parameters on fiber production were studied preliminary.Under the condition of the other parameters unchanged, with the increase of the voltage,the fiber production was also increase gradually, and the effects of flow rate andcollecting distance on fiber production have the similar rules. The increment of fiberproduction in unit time interval has a trend of increase at first and then decrease.The morphology, the fineness and the diameter distribution of the fiber under optimal spinning parameters were studied by SEM image. The reason of possibility of SA/PVAcontaining silver solution was confirmed by the FTIR test of the different fibrofelt.The antibacterial property of PVA fibrofelt, SA/PVA fibrofelt and SA/PVA containingsilver fibrofelt were tested by shake flask method. The results were as follows: PVAfibrofelt didn’t have bacteriostasis or anti-bacterial activity, SA/PVA fibrofelt hadbacteriostasis, and SA/PVA containing silver fibrofelt had anti-bacterial activity. Thecontent of the nanometer silver colloid was only0.1%in the solution, but it also had acertain anti-bacterial activity.
