With the rapid development of the metallurgical, chemical, military, aerospaceand other related fields, the demands of manganese, chromium, titanium, zirconium,vanadium and other metal raw materials rapidly increased, part of the raw materialseven become shortage. The main reason is that most of these enterprises have a nothigh degree of automation and low productivity. At present, most of themanganese’s production process depends on artificial, because of the low degree ofautomation, the process of plates’ load and straightening are manually, which hasrestricted the production efficiency of the electrolytic manganese. Therefore, anautomatic manganese production equipment are urgent need to achieve rapid andefficient production, as one of the important part of the system, the straighteningequipment are put forward.Based on metal elastic-plastic deformation theory, use pressure straightening ttheory to establish the elastic-plastic bending model of electrolytic manganesecathode plate, deduce the relationship between the original curvature andstraightening moment of the plate, and then calculate the formula between thestraightening reduction and the original curvature. Then use the finite elementsoftware to simulate the straightening process of the plates, through analysis ofdifferent situation to determine the impact of different factors on straightening andstraightening parameters.Full account of the cathode plate’ dimensions and the deformation mechanism,combined with the pressure straightening model, an automatic straighteningequipment is designed in this paper. In this straightening system the imagerecognition module is the core part, through the CCD image capture, this equipmentcan obtain real-time deformation of the manganese cathode plate. Using Matlab tofinish the image process task, and then obtain the required parameters of thecathode plate during straightening. Through a mixture of Visual Studio2010andMatlab programming techniques to complete the system’s software development.Sending the straightening data in the form of serial communication to the PLC, andthen control the servo motor to achieve the straightening action. As thestraightening system can collect the cathode plate’s deformation in real-time, so the accuracy and the speed of straightening are both satisfied.Finally, use the different influencing factors to straightening experiment,Analysis the trend of straightening process under the factors of roller’s distance, theload speed and straightening stroke factor, and then through the comparative of theexperimental and finite element simulation results to determine the exact value ofstraightening parameters.
