With the current environment of economic globalization and social information,the information of machinery manufacturing is an inevitable trend. The implementing ofthe information in most manufacturing enterprises is mainly used in transformingdrawing from two-dimensional design into three-dimensional model design, and hasbeen extended to the department of management; production and sales etc.By the technology of digital design, the digital and intelligent in product designmeans and design process are achieved, the product development cycle are shortened,the ability of enterprise’s product innovation are enhanced. In the operation across theenterprise, the product data management is a core.According to an example of a domestic foreign machine tool manufacturesenterprises (adopting solidworks Enterprise PDM), a novel design management conceptof PDM–modular design is introduced in this paper. The system is an EPDM systemfor enterprise-class and its function covers all business scope of enterprise. The EPDMsystem possess more advanced process management, wider data sharing and morecomplex function of product configuration management. Firstly, according to thecurrent status of product management and information in the enterprise, a problem thatneed to be resolved immediately and a demand for EPDM are proposed, By analyzingthe EPDM demand, the data flow,data dictionary and data structures are designed; thedesign goals are confirmed, the design program namely modular design are determined.Secondly, according to the demand of enterprise, the number of large modules includedproduct module; mechanical module SO (special note); electrical module; functionalpack module and product report output module etc. Are designed in the system, and thedetailed functional design for each module are also executed. Finally, the developmentenvironment and the functional achieving for each module as well as the explaining forinterface and operating of the system are described in detail.
