SiC particle reinforced aluminum matrix composites with high strength, highspecific stiffness and high elastic modulus, have been applied on the structural designof lightweight, and have broad application prospects in the fields of aviation,aerospace, machinery, electron etc. as advanced materials. SiC particles cansignificantly improve the mechanical properties of materials under ambient andelevated temperatures, so SiC particle reinforced aluminum matrix composites havegreat potential for development. However, due to the accession of the ceramicparticles, there is a decrease in the composites’ plasticity, and the plastic processingbecomes difficult, the application and development are therefore limited. Differentfrom the traditional plastic processing methods, through the current auxiliarystamping forming method, SiC particle reinforced aluminum matrix composite sheetcan be processed.The optical microstructure, some electric, thermal parameters of theSiCp/2024Al composite sheet were measured and completed; the analysis andcomparison of the elevated temperature tensile test of the composite sheet andspecimens’fracture morphology were made, and the strain rate sensitivity index of thecomposite was also measured. Finally, the current auxiliary stamping forming ofSiCp/2024Al composite sheet was made.Firstly, the optical microstructure of SiCp/2024Al composite was observed. Andthe electrical, thermal parameters (including resistivity, specific heat capacity andthermal diffusivity) were measured.Then, the elevated temperature tensile tests of the sheet, including the currentauxiliary and the furnace temperature tensile tests were made. The current auxiliarytensile experimental result showed that, at the power-off temperature of300℃andstrain rate of0.01s-1, the elongation reached39.54%. Contrast to the two tensileexperimental result, it showed that the tensile strength of the current auxiliary tensilewas always lower than that of the furnace temperature tensile, and the average valueof the difference of that was109.04MPa. By the analysis of the tensile specimensfracture morphology, the fracture mode and fracture mechanism of SiCp/2024Alcomposite sheet in the elevated temperature were determined.The electric heating experiment of SiCp/2024Al composite sheet wasaccomplished, then the heating situation, the temperature distribution and itsinfluencing factors of the composite sheet had been analysed to improve the currentauxiliary stamping forming process. Finally, the current auxiliary stamping forming experiment of SiCp/2024Al composite sheet was performed, when the current densitywas21.7A/mm2and the sheet temperature was400℃, with the current auxiliaryheating system of designing and manufacturing independently. The workpiece waswith smooth and clean surface quality, uniform thickness and good geometricaccuracy, and without obvious cracks, and came up to designing requirements.
