Oil and natural gas is an important guarantee of economic growth, and the demand for it has been on the increase all these years. In order to ensure the sustainable development of economy, all countries in the world treat oil and gas as important strategic reserve substance. The discovery and exploration of oil and gas become the primary task to occupy the strategic commanding height. In recent years, the scale of offshore oilfield expands unceasingly and oil production increases. It plays a more and more important role in the national economy. In the process of construction and exploitation of offshore oil and gas resources, the power system of offshore oil platform is an important part of the oil extraction system. It can provide energy and power for the entire offshore system. And it is of great practical significance for ensuring the reliable operation of the oil exploration. The power system of offshore oil platform has a big difference with the land-based power system. The former is generally a single-ended power supply system which is relatively weak and vulnerable to the interference of various factors. The reliability of power supply can’t be guaranteed. At the same time, the electricity is sent to each platform by long-distance submarine cable which bring a series of steady-state and transient problems, such as submarine cable charging, cable switching overvoltage and power frequency voltage increasing. In order to ensure the normal operation of the oil platforms, the research on power system of platforms is extremely urgent. This paper pointed out the characteristics of the power system on offshore oil platforms and its operating modes. And the models of generators, transformers, submarine cables and load were established. The article analyzed the mechanism of power frequency voltage rising and the switching voltage of resection perceptual load, and discussed how overvoltage happen and the whole process of development by derivation. Combined with the actual submarine cable breakdown failure, the paper studied overvoltage of marine cable on offshore oil platforms, and confirmed the reason of breakdown failures. On this basis, targeted inhibition measures were proposed to suppress the development of submarine cable overvoltage. The measures were proved to be correct by MATLAB software simulation. The article is of great practical importance to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the offshore oil platform power system.
