Presses are widely used in various types of machining and refractory manufacturing enterprises because of its good processing performance. There are a large number of old presses that will be about to functional scrapped possessed by domestic small and medium-sized enterprises. It will be a huge waste of resources if these presses are abandoned directly. The remanufacturing of old presses was studied and a comprehensive performance evaluation model for the entire life cycle is established in the article. Methods and software implementation of the fatigue life analysis for presses’ key components are explored and on this basis the key technology and method for presses’ remanufacturing and redesign are studied. Then the type of J53-400T press is remanufactured using the proposed method.The relationship between comprehensive performance evaluation of presses’ life-cycle and remanufacturing, and then principles for selecting the presses comprehensive performance evaluation index are established. The index system for presses comprehensive performance evaluation is built based on the principle. Gray correlation analysis method aimed to complex uncertain gray system is been chosen and improved, and then the mathematical model of the presses comprehensive performance evaluation is established.The important role of the fatigue life prediction in the manufacturing process is analyzed and methods for fatigue life analysis are researched. The lifecycle analysis method is chosen to analyze fatigue life combined with the characteristics of the presses. The software implementation method for analyzing the fatigue life is selected to use MSC.Patran,MSC.Nastran,MSC.Adams andMSC. Fatigue.The structural principles and the movement of several commonly presses are analyzed. Remanufacturing for presses is researched from the two aspects of remanufacturing reuse and redesign. The press parts information system is classified from the ontology layer and the subject layer and the repair processes and methods for scrap parts are researched. The redesign in the press manufacturing process has been studied from the three aspects of power system, transmission system, control system and the operating mechanism.The remanufacturing method is applied on the J53-400T friction screw press and the fatigue life of the screw is analyzed. The power system of the press is replaced and the transmission system is redesigned based on the kinematic analysis of the mechanism and the relationship between the force and energy. A three-dimensional model of the press is created using SolidWorks software and the method is practical applied in the factory.
