Quartz purification is a difficult beneficiation technology to obtain high purity quartz byremoving small amount of impurity such as mineral inclusions or trace elements.(HPQ)high-purity quartz sand is the main raw material of quartz glass, quartz crucible and otherhigh-end products.In recent years, with depletion of natural crystal and the expansion of photovoltaic,silicon microelectronics industry, the greater HPQ are required, so the substitution of naturalcrystal quartz from ordinary quartz materials, the treatment to the raw quartz materials,appropriate the purification process for producing HPQ are also required.This paper, Guangdong Shanwei vein quartz mine and Inner Mongolia Mayazishanquartz ore were researched, depend on the variety of main impurities and morphology of thetwo kinds of quartz materials, using a variety of flotation method base on different oreflotation mechanism, and pretreatment research to optimize the flotation process.Photographand Laser Confocal Scanning Microscopic show mica,feldspar or ferriferous minerals are themain solid impurities that adhere to the surface of quartz particle.Study focused on the quartz flotation pretreatment process, by using media ball crubbingmineral inclusions impurities that exposed to the surface of quartz particle with stirring mill.The smaller volume filling ratio, larger size of the high-density zirconia grinding media ball,appropriate stirring speed were adjusted and optimized for fast scrubbing quartz particle,while to reduce the impact of the quartz particles which would cause over-grinding. Theoptimized parameter for pre-process are using2.5mm~3.0mm zirconia grinding balls, thevolume filling ratio is40%and the tip speed is6m/s.Mica, feldspar and ferriferous mineralsimpurities exposed to the surface of the quartz mineral were effectively scrubbed, whichcaused mineral inclusions dissociation from quartz and improve flotation performance.Impurities of the quartz mine from Inner Mongolia, including feldspar, muscovite, andilmenite, while Luhei quartz mine contains feldspar, mica and apatite mineral inclusions. Theappropriate method for purification were investigated, including the pH value, theconcentration of the slurry, flotation reagents, types of acid,etc.The XRF results show each kind of quartz purity increased to99.8~99.9%during thepre-process and tailored flotation solution.
