Superhydrophobic materials have been widely used in navigation, electrictransportion and textile because of their hydrophobic property. There are two methodsto produce superhydrophobic surfaces, such as the fabrication of surface roughnessand the modification of surface by low-surface-energy materials. BaFmClnmaterialshave outstanding optical properties, but and the application in superhydrophobicmaterials has seldom been studied. The micro-materials have been synthesized bychanging the synthesis conditions. The rough surfaces have been fabricated withdifferent basal surface. The synthesis methods of BaFmClnare usually by sol-gelprocess, the solid-state reaction at high temperature, Czochralski technique, etc. However, these methods have some limitation, such as morphology is hard to controland the procedure is very complex. Hence, we adopted a simple solution andhydrothermal method to synthesize BaFmClnin this paper. The details weresummarized as follows:(1) The BaFCl crystals were prepared by using a simple solution and refluxmethod. The samples were characterized by XRD, SEM, TG and CA. Different sizeand shape of the samples have been made by changing the reaction time, reactiontemperature and kinds of pH values. The results show that the reaction condition has acrucial influence on the performance of the products. When the superhydrophobicsurfaces have been fabricated by BaFCl crystals, the possible superhydrophobicformation mechanism also discussed.(2) The BaF2crystals were suecessfully synthesized by hydrothermal method. The products have been controlled through adjusting reaction time, reactiontemperature, pH values and the different surfactants. The contact angle variation ofdifferent surfaces modified by BaF2crystals was constrasted. Corrosion resistance andstability have been studied.(3) The Ba2F3Cl and Ba12F19Cl5crystals were synthesized by using BaCl22H2Oand NH4F as reaction precursor. Adopting EDTA, CTAB, PEG, L-glutamic acid assurfactants, morphology of the products can be controlled in the hydrothermalreactions. The detailed synthesis mechanism and superhydrophobicity were discussedin details.
