Electrical Discharge Machining is used widely in mold processing process. The moldelectrode is used as a target workpiece firstly, and then it is used for electrical dischargemachining. The fixture used in mold electrode processing is replaced on the next workingprocedure so that the repeat positioning accuracy is not high. In order to improve the accuracyof electrode processes, it is necessary to develop the universal fixture on mold electrode. Atthe same time, the existing design of the electrode fixture has problems on repeated design. Itis necessary to develop a fixture design system on mold electrode fixture.This thesis firstly analyzed the related knowledge of mold electrode and fixture, and thenanalyzed the research status of the computer aided fixture design and3D parts library systemon fixture at home and abroad. Secondly, the key technique of the design system of fixture onmold electrode was studied, and the suitable development tools for the system were choosed,includeing UG/Open API, UG/Open MenuScript, UG/Open UIStyler, Visual C++6.0andMicrosoft Access. Thirdly, the design process of the universal fixture on mold electrode isdiscussed, including the fixture design requirements, the principle of fixture design, thepositioning accuracy of fixture and the checking calculation of fixture clamping device.Fourthly, the development and implementation of the design system of fixture on moldelectrode are analyzed in this paper, including the system function requirement analysis, theoverall design of the system, the building method of3D parametric parts library, the developmethods and steps of the design system of fixture on mold electrode, automatic assemblydrawing and the engineering drawing. Finally,three instances are presented in Chapter5todemonstrate the file management module, the fixture design and assembly module and theuser management module. Besides this, the collision simulation of the universal fixture onmold electrode and cutting tool was given.The design of the universal fixture on mold electrode can make electrodes only need touse the same fixture in CNC machining, EDM and WEDM processing. And the fixture andthe final mold electrode can directly be used for electrical discharge machining after thecompletion of processing, which not only can improve the machining precision of moldelectrodes and the repositioning precision of the fixture, but also can improve the efficiency ofmold processing and the automation degree of mold manufacturing. The design system offixture on mold electrode can make users more convenient to design the fixture.
