Squeeze casting is an advanced near-net shape process. Its character is as follows:liquid metal is formed solidification under a high pressure after a smooth filling, which can avoid porosity and shrinkage defects. The squeeze castings have good mechanical properties, which can get to or reach the level of the same alloy forgings.Squeeze casting equipment is the main platform of the process, whose performance directly determines the development and promotion of the squeeze casting process. Injection system is the core component of the equipment, including punch and chamber. Punch and chamber have a clearance fit under normal circumstances, but under the action of high temperature, high pressure and friction, the match situation of the punch and chamber changes because their thermal deformation laws are inconsistent. Too large and too small clearance both have great impacts on the injection process, reducing the accuracy and stability of the process control. Therefore, it’s necessary to acquire the thermal deformation and dynamic match laws of the injection system.To meet the requirement above, this paper designed and manufactured the laboratory equipment of injection system and the deformation and temperature measurement system for punch and chamber. A temperature control method was proposed. Experimental values were obtained after the squeeze casting experiments. Based on three-dimensional modeling software Pro/E and casting simulation software ProCAST, a numerical model of the injection system was established. Following the experimental conditions, the model was simulated. Then the results were acquired, which were compared with the experimental values. The comparison results showed that the numerical model was correct and reliable. The numerical model was applied to the2500kN squeeze casting machine. Two process of cooling and non-cooling were simulated and the simulation results indicated the temperature control method could ensure the accuracy and stability of injection system. Then the temperature control method was applied to the40000kN squeeze casting machine. Five process of different thickness of chambers for40mm,50mm,60mm,70mm and80mm were simulated and the simulation results showed that the one of50mm can better enhance the performance of injection system.This paper designed the laboratory equipment, the simulation model of injection system and a temperature control method. The underlying principles and methods were used in practice, which had certain guiding significance for design and manufacture of the injection system of squeeze casting machine in the future.
