Based on the reinforcing of people’s resource and environmental awareness, howto synthesize fluorinated copolymer emulsion with anticipated macromolecularstructure and properties in dispersed phase systems has become a challenge tochemical prosess and product engineering. Researchers always hope to exploit possiblepolymerization strategy, by doing so, it is anticipated that excellent properies can bepreserves while the amount of fluorinated compounds required in the polymers isreduced considerably. Base on the design of molecule constructure and nonalaticemorphology, the synthesis, properties and characterization of fluorinated acrylatecopolymers were studied in detail, from the macromolecular chaincomposition,submicro morphology of lattices and copolymer aggregation. Specificresearch contents include the following aspects:Stable fluoroacrylate temary copolymer emulsion were made by miniemulsionpolymerization with fluoroacrylate(FA), butylacrylate(BA), methylmethylacrylate(MMA) as the monomers. The composition of copolymer were demonstrated byFT-IR and1H NMR. The influence of ultrasonic power, ultrasonic time, emulsifierdosage and FA contents on emulsion particle size and its distribution index wasinvestigated and the surface property of films was studied by Wilhelmy method.Copolymer particles were found to be one-one copy of the monomer droplets and dropnucleation was the dominant mechanism in polymerization process.Different fluorine monomer content fluoroacrylate were made by miniemulsion polymerization, the results showed that the hydrophobic and oleophobic performanceincreased with increasing the contentration of FA. The surface energies don’t increaseobviously, because of the chain segments in polymer latex film with fluorinesurface-enriched air interface quantity tends to saturated.The fluoroacrylate polymer membrane of different Tg were researched, theresults showed that Tg was an important fator for the enrichment of fluorinatedcomponment on film-air. The surface free energies of copolymer films decrease withthe copolymer of Tg increasing. The polymer emulsion membrane were lesshydrophobic and oleophobic.A series of fluorinated acrylate copolymers were synthesized via miniemulsionpolymerization by fluoroacrylate (FA), Methylmethy lacrylate (MMA) and n-alkylacrylates (RAs,n=4,8,12,17,18) with various lengths of side chains. from themacromolecular chaincomposition, submicro morphology of lattices and copolymeraggregation. The research results show that with the long chain alkyl length increases,the copolymers had crystallization. The copolymers own crystallization. The surfaceproperty of films was studied by Wilhelmy method. It may suggest that crystallizationof hydrocarbon side-chain of copolymers can promote fluorinated component toimprove the hydrophobicity and olephobicity of the films.
