After decades of development, the hot metal pretreatment has become an indispensable step which could optimize the steel production process and save energy in steelmaking process. Therefore, the hot metal pretreatment technology is more and more important in the actual production. This study comes from the cooperative project of WISCO and HUST:"Study of Dynamics in Metallurgical Process-Hot Metal Pretreatment System". Mechanical stirring and jet stirring are the two main methods adopted by WISCO. This thesis studies the mechanical stirring process in hot metal desulfurization. For the hot metal mechanical stirring desulfurization process of WISCO, this thesis has done the following research works:First, This thesis uses CFD software FLUENT for numerical simulation, and the numerical results are compared with the water model experimental results, including the evolution of the free surface, the distribution of suspended particles, etc, in order to validate accuracy of our numerical simulation results. Then, hot metal mechanical stirring desulfurization process in the real production line is simulated, and the free surface evolution and the distribution of the suspended particles effects of working parameters are summarized. This work will lay foundations for improving the production capacity and reducing the steel production costs of WISCO.Numerical results are compared with water model experiment results under17different working conditions, and the numerical results, including the evolution of the free surface, the distribution of the suspended particles, etc, are consistent with the results of the water model experiment, with the errors less than5%. In addition, dynamics of hot metal desulfurization with three-leaf and four-leaf stirrers, as well as the1OOt hot metal ladle of No.2Steel Smelting Plant and the200t hot metal ladle of No.4Steel Smelting Plant, is numerically studied. Working parameters, such as stirrer insertion depth, stirrer speed, stirrer radius, etc, are varied, and the numerical simulation results are analyzed. Finally, effects of different working parameters on the dynamics of hot metal desulfurization are summarized.
