A smart material is a new branch of science in modern scientific research.itsunique functional ability has been concerned widely. Smart materials can be made intothe element consisting of sensor actuator and control system. As sensor, the smartmaterial can feel environment change using its functional ability.as actuator it canrender response using its construction and physical property. This branch of learning isbooming and would make great contribution to scientific advancement of human being.Shape memory polymer is a very important branch in smart material. It is the mostimportant function of shape memory polymer that recovering the shape by itself inproper temperature. Its good performance in load bearing capacity, shape recoveryability and movement stability is attracting more and more people’s attention.In this paper, in order to get higher specific strength, higher specific modulus, andlighter shape memory polymer, we make the shape memory polymer into shape memorypolymer foam. Besides its high specific strength, high specific modulus, and lighterweigh ability, it also has shape recovery ability. When the temperature is above glasstransition temperature, exerting force to the shape memory polymer will lead tocompressive displacement. Then cool the temperature below glass transitiontemperature and remove the applied stress, the shape would be fixed. When raise thetemperature above the glass transition temperature again, the shape of shape memorypolymer foam will show a very high recover ratio. The shape recovery ability of shapememory polymer foam is better than the traditional shape memory polymer.At first, this article has discussed how the type of foaming agent, content offoaming agent, foaming environment, foaming time affect the thickness, weight, volume,density, void content. We can select a better foaming technology through the analysis ofdata. We can also describe the situation changes in detail when shape memory polymerfoam is solidifying using these data. Reasoned and confirmed the viscosity change,volatilize velocity change, and blowholes situation when making the shape memorypolymer foam. These conclusions can provide a reference to the application andresearch on shape memory polymer foam.Then we made some kinds of proportions of foam agent of shape memory polymerfoam, and compressive experiments were made, then we got the compression curve ofthese kinds of foam agent proportions of shape memory polymer foam. Thecompression process of shape memory foam is different from traditional brittlematerials. The compression process is relatively complicated, and its property is easilyaffected by proportion of foam agent. We studied the compression property of theanterior, the middle and the posterior segments. We got the relation between the compression property and proportions of foam agent. At the same time shape recoverexperiment of normal temperature compression were made, got the recovery curve ofthe different proportions of foam agent. We verified the feasibility of recover ability ofshape memory polymer foam in normal compression temperature condition.At last Variable temperature compression test and Thermal cycling test wereapplied in shape memory foam. We studied the shape memory foam compression test indifferent temperature and different proportions of foam agent. Then a simple analysis atstress-strain curves was made. We also tested the shape recover ability and shaperetention ability of shape memory foam in different temperature and differentproportions of foam agent. Internal change in different kinds of compression progresswere analyzed and deduced. In the thermal cycling test, we studied thermal cyclingperformance of shape memory foam in different temperature. We studied the relationbetween Shape recover ability, shape retention ability and proportions of foam agent.The thermal cycling times.
