Three dimensional continuous ceramic/metal composite was obtained byinfiltration process, in which the liquid metal was poured into three-dimensionalnetwork of the porous ceramics perform body. Just as the porous material which isproduced by powder metallurgy technology, the composite material also has the specialperformance of penetration of gas or liquid, and has a good development prospect. Nowit had been applied abroad, but in domestic there are few relevant researches in thisaspect. In this paper, aimed at studying a new type of low permeability coefficientporous aerostatic bearing material, FLUENT software was used to simulate the staticperformance of this material, providing theoretical and experimental basis for theapplication of three dimensional continuous Al2O3/ZL102composite aerostatic bearing.With α-Al2O3, B4C, alkyd resin varnish and polyurethane foam as raw material,porous alumina ceramic perform bodies of various PPI were first prepared using hangpulp forming technology, then infiltration process was used to prepare threedimensional continuous Al2O3/ZL102composite, the subsequent processingmanufacturing the aerostatic bearings. The porosity, microstructure of the aerostaticbearing of this material were tested and analyzed; the effect of permeability, theparameters of operation condition, and the restrictor structure parameters on the staticperformance of aerostatic bearings of this material were simulated using FLUENTsoftware.The study of preparation process and the performance of the materials showed: atthe infiltration temperature of720℃,the infiltration pressure of0.04MPa,the threedimensional continuous Al2O3/ZL102composite materials prepared using30PPI Al2O3perform has a15.7%porosity、0.4×10-12m2permeability, and a uniformity andisotropic porous distribution. The material has better mechanical properties thanmaterials made of10PPI,20PPI Al2O3perform and ZL102, can meet the requirementsof porous aerostatic bearings, and was expected to be used for porous aerostaticbearings.Simulation results of porous composite material aerostatic bearings usingFLUENT software showed that the simulation value of aerostatic bearings loadcapacity at the pressure of0.6MPa is only9.82%different from experiment value. The result showed that the model has certain credibility.
