Polishing is an important process in the production process of the plumbingequipments and auto parts manufacturing and production process. However, existingpolishing equipments have not been promoted in those areas for a variety of reasons. Atpresent, most of the polishing process of the plumbing equipments and auto parts isrealized by artificial. That operating mode has much weakness, such as serious pollution,low efficiency and bad polishing effect. So it’s important to develop an automaticpolishing machine to polish plumbing equipments and auto parts.An automatic machine is developed and introduced in this thesis considering thepolishing technology and the processing requirement. It is a four working placeautomation, and the control system of which is built based on an open CNC system withmotion control card embedded in a PC. The polishing is completed by multi-axis move.The mechanical structure of the automatic machine consists of a rotary worktable andfour workpiece stations: Six assembly stations are fixed on the rotary worktable. The verticalmovement of the workpiece is controlled by the assembly station, the conversion of the stationis controlled by the rotary worktable; the back, forth, right, left and rational movement of thegrinding head is controlled by the workpiece station. The polishing is achieved by the relativemotion of the grinding head and the workpiece.According to the working principle of the parts of the open CNC system, a hardwareis selected and some parameters are set based on the processing requirements, then theelectrical control schematics is designed. A good, simple operated interactive interface isestablished in VC development environment. The G-code compiler and tool compensationis achieved. The difficulty of programming is greatly reduced.The gear strength is analyzed in Abaqus under fault conditions based on the contracttheory.The experiments show that this automatic machine can be used to complete thepolishing processing of the surface of the specific plumbing equipment, and the efficiencyand effect of grinding is greatly improved.
