Drill pipe is the key equipment of the oil drill string, it is able to pass the requiredpressure, rotational speed and torque to the drill. During drilling construction, it enduresaxial force, centrifugal force, torsional force, bending and dynamic load, meanwhile,corrosion medium in drilling fluid and mud would severely corrode drill pipe. Seriousdefect on any part of the drill pipe will cause severe drilling accidents. Non-destructivetesting technology is an effective way to detect whether the drill pipe has defects, and todetect various defects of the drill pipe, it can effectively control the quality of the drillpipe, and improve the reliability of the drill pipe. Therefore, this paper carried out theresearch of portable drill pipe testing system.First, this paper analyzes the structure, the parameters and common defects form of thedrill pipe. The axial component of magnetic leakage field generated by Φ1.6mm throughhole is obtained by ANSYS, and it is selected as the sensor design principle of portabledrill pipe detection system. The center of the testing coil spacing range which can pick upall the defects leakage magnetic field is determined by theoretical calculation. The level ofsensitivity and signal consistencies of four different spacing array sensors are analyzed byexperiments, and the best spacing of array sensor is identified. The liftoff characteristics ofarray sensor are analyzed by experiments, and the best liftoff of array sensor is achieved.Magnetization methods and magnetizer of portable drill pipe testing system areresearched. The magnetizer structural box which can be opened or closed, and the testingprobe which can ensure signal consistency are designed.Finally, detection assembly are designed, and its specific detection process.Performance testing experiments of portable drill pipe detection system shows that thetesting method and equipment that proposed in this paper, have good signal consistency,and can meet the requirements of industrial field detection.
