In this thesis, a new strategy was presented to prepare functionalized graphene oxidesheets by chemical methods using graphene oxide as precursor. And two kinds of methodswere used in the functionalization of graphene oxide, the detailed types of the potentialapplication of functionalized graphene oxide. Especially, we studied the facile preparationof the functionalized graphene oxide and the synthesis liquid crystal polymerfunctionalized graphene oxide, below shows the details.First improved Hummers method was chosen to prepare graphene oxide, then wassubjected to ultrasonic treatment in H2O to prepare graphene oxide aqueous solution. Inaddition, we synthesized polymer grafted graphene oxide by using a redox system withcerium (IV) ammonium nitrate/nitric acid and GO sheets’ hydroxyl groups as the redoxcouple. And the new structure was proved to be got through the results of FT-IR, XRD andTGA. We found that the vinyl polymers functionalized graphene oxide have differentstructure with various temperature and redox initiator’s concentration.We have successfully synthesized pyrene-terminated side-chain liquid crystallinepolymer and modified graphene oxide with the polymer via π-π stacking. The newstructure was proved to be got through the results of FT-IR, XRD, TGA, AFM andsolubility test. And studied the changes of liquid crystal phase behavior when the liquidcrystal polymer lie in the limited two-dimensional space of reduced graphene oxide.
