Sweet potato is commonly called scammony, ipomoea batatas and batata, which isusually to produce root tuber or sweet potato stem and leaf (SPSL). The resources of SPSLare very huge, but SPSL are seldom utilized. This causes the waste of resources andpollution of environment. To exploit the rich resources, in this paper, we studies thebacteriostasis and hypoglycemic of polysaccharides and flavonoids from SPSL (SPSL-Pand SPSL-F).The results are as followings.1. Bacteriostasis of SPSL-P and SPSL-FThe bacillus (Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Shiga bacillus) and mildew(Rhizopus stolonifer and Aspergillus niger) were chosen in bacteriostasis experiments.Calcium propionate and sodium benzoate were used to be control. The results indicated thatSPSL-F were good at restraining Escherichia coli、Staphylococcus aureus and Shiga bacillus.SPSL-F had more favorable bacteriostasis than SPSL-P. The MIC of Escherichia coli was11.25mg/mL and5.25mg/mL, Staphylococcus aureus was9.25mg/mL and3.25mg/mL, Shigabacillus was8.75mg/mL and3.25mg/mL, Rhizopus stolonifer was150.00mg/mL and27.50mg/mL, Black mold was325.00mg/mL and50.00mg/mL. Medium pH had the majorinfluence on bacteriostasis of SPSL-P and SPSL-F. However, solution pH had less significanteffect, neutral and meta acids medium benefit to bacteriostasis. Similarly, temperature has notsignificant influence.2. Hypoglycemic activity of SPSL-P and SPSL-FSPSL-P and SPSL-F had no effect of FBG, insulin, hepatic glycogen and sugar tolerancein normal mouse, which also couldn’t impact the diabetogenic mouse’s insulin. In theexperiment of diabetogenic mouse, SPSL-P and SPSL-F could significantly or extremelysignificantly lower the FBG. SPSL-P and SPSL-F were able to obviously elevate the liverstarch. SPSL-P and SPSL-F were extremely capable of raising the level of blood serum SOD.SPSL-P and SPSL-F had ability to cut down the blood serum MDA. Furthermore, SPSL-Pand SPSL-F also could extremely significantly improve the sugar tolerance of diabetogenic mouse, but comparing with the normal mouse which still exist very significant deviation.Besides, the inhibition ratio of α-glucosidase could reach to acarbose’s45.1%and88.7%inadding quantity of SPSL-P and SPSL-F at300μL.
