After twenty years of development, Chinese diamond market progress rapidly from almost ablank to the world’s second largest diamond consumer market just behind the United States.Meanwhile it also become the highlight and an important driving force of the global diamondmarket. With the continuous growth of diamond consumer market, researches in diamonds’areashave also been made great progress.Diamond processing is extremely important in today’s diamonds’ retail market.Nowadays, through the theoretical analysis and comparison of the actual cutting and grinding to roughdiamond samples, It can clearly show the type, location, size and number of the inclusions in thediamond which determines the value of the finished diamond. Therefore, to achieve themaximum yield of rough diamonds is actually based on a careful analysis of inclusions in roughdiamonds. The shape of rough stone is naturally formed and can not be changed,so inclusionsdetermine the value of rough diamonds.Meanwhile, in the process of cutting and grinding we have to consider the adverse effectsbringing by cutting and grinding. Through cutting the test samples, summed up the followingconclusions:(1) The designing scheme which can achieve the maximum yield of rough diamonds is notalways the scheme to maximizing the value of rough diamonds.(2) The value of the diamond which being cut into an individual, is not necessarily lowerthan being cut into many smaller ones, the removal of dark and large inclusions is conducive tothe improvement of the value. Cutting the stone into two different size diamonds is notnecessarily better than cutting it into two same size, the key is how to deal with the inclusions. One smaller diamond which has higher clarity usually have a higher value than a bigger one.Ensure the carat or the clarity is an extremely contradictory problem which requires specificanalysis of the final value it can bring.(3) When splitting the diamond, the location and type of inclusions, the internal stress of theoriginal crystal surface and inclusions need to be considered. Although diamond is the hardestnatural mineral, it’s brittle and easily broken. Under the action of external force, the diamond iseasily broken along cleavage planes, especially when rough diamond itself has a feather crack orinclusions.Once there is external force, it can increase the internal stress then crack the diamond, which will severely affect the yield of finished diamonds. For the rough stone which has origincrystal surface, we should try to avoid the triangular pits expand along with the cleavagefracture.(4) During the processing progress, It’s necessary to cut the inclusions near the surface andclean the surface in order to observe. Internal inclusions should be carefully observed, particularly the presence of the slight flaws. It requires to observe its size, number and location, and then determine whether all inclusions can be rub off or just remove some bigger inclusions, reduce the number of inclusions, and then estimate the size of the risk..(5) The quality of the tools for diamond’s cutting and grinding also affects the merits ofpolished diamonds. Such as the intensity of fixtures, flatness and revolution of millstone and soon will affect the finished product.
