There are abundant non-metallic mineral resources in China. However in recentyears, the exports of bentonite were appeared gradually increasing trend every year,this has created some economic value for China, but many of bentonite depth ofprocessing products used in industry and civil life still needed to export from abroad,indicating that our country was in a weak position in the field of depth development ofbentonite. In order to make full use of our country’s mineral resources and promotethe healthy development of nation economy, we must develop the skills level of depthof processing of bentonite. So it has great significance to enhance the depth ofprocessing and application of bentonite.This paper was focused on the study of bentonite. Through the surfacemodification of bentonite, we obtained the organic bentonite and activated bentonite,and then carried out the study of activated bentonite as rubber filler.In the experiment of preparing organic bentonite, through XRD, DTA, TG and IRet al methods studied the structure of organic bentonite prepared by Na-bentonite andorganic cover agent, and discussed the optimal experimental conditions. We alsostudied the preparation and structural characteristics of Ca-bentonite organiccompounds. The results showed that acrylamide as organic cover agent can access toNa-bentonite layer and form acrylamide-sodium bentonite compound. This compoundcalcined at150℃for30minutes, can make acrylamide aggregate intopolyacrylamide and form polyacrylamide organic bentonite. The optimal amount oforganic cover agent was1.5times of ion exchange capacity of bentonite, and theconcentration of cover agent was2times of bentonite suspension when preparingorganic bentonite. Ca-bentonite used directly raw material and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide as cover agent also obtained good organic bentonite, they canincrease Ca-montmonrillonite interlayer space and weight loss.Through analysed density, size, ion exchange capacity, Si content, DTA, TG of activated bentonite, it concluded that the optimal conditions of preparing activatedclay was: the concentration of acid was20%, the heat stirring time was8hours.It was found that the raw soil and activated clay could be as rubber filler afterthey through surface modification. Samples prepared by Experiment2and3can beinstead of white carbon black as rubber filler by IR spectroscopy and mechanicalproperities (tearing strength, elongation, extend, permanent deformation,hardness).They not only can improve the performance of rubber filler, but also canreduce production costs.
