Whether to produce the daily necessities, or to research and develop the toptechnology products, automatic welding technology is indispensable. With the newtechnology put into use, as well as the improvement of the quality requirements of avariety of products, allowing people to put forward higher requirements for weldingtechnology. Welding automation is the work to conform to the specific performanceof this requirement.From the number of welding equipment and welding materials consumption,China has become a big welding country. However, from the degree of weldingautomation, the intensity of originality technical research and development,production efficiency and management level, advanced technology’s application inthe depth and breadth, China had not done enough. Domestic enterprises mainly inwelding, most still rely on manual or semi-automated production. Moreover, theimbalance is in the level of development of automatic welding. The highest level ofautomatic welding is in automotive manufacturing, and aerospace industry followed.Due to the limitations of investment and technical level, the majority of small andmedium enterprises show the phenomenon of elusive to automatic welding. Therefore,the development and use of new welding automation technology will play a huge rolein promoting the development of China’s economic.The paper design and develop an automatic welding system, which is on thebasis of Cotex-M3and CAN bus technology. To ensure the accuracy and therequirements of the system, Cotex-M3microprocessor, CAN bus communication,serial communication, laser displacement sensor, A/D conversion technology beused. It selects the C language as a software programming language to accelerate thespeed of development of the system. The automatic welding control system based onCotex-M3microprocessor, using laser displacement sensor to obtain signal, usingstepper motor to control the relative position between welding gun and weld. Usingthe laser displacement sensor to probe the two-dimension’s position, using steppermotor to track the two-dimensional in stereoscopic, achieve an accurate and real-timetracking of the weld. The automatic welding system according to the needs of theirwork, design two operating modes: fully automatic mode and debug mode (manualmode).
