Nowadays, the mineral resources are running out in decades, which constrains thedevelopment of the world economy. China is also facing the challenge of resource shortage. So the exploitation of new resources is an emergent requirement. Straw is a recyclable newresource with large reserves, which has not been well used in the past. Since the straw ismostly treated by burning, it is not only a waste of resources, but also causes much airpollution by burning. The proper utilization of straw is significant for China and even thewhole world. In this study, corn straw was phenolated in the presence of sulfuric acid use as a catalyst. The effects of different phenol-to-corn straw ratio, catalyst concentration, temperature andtime on liquefaction reaction were investigated by orthogonal test. The results showed that theliquid ratio (phenol/corn straw) of5:1, reaction temperature of150℃, time of90min, andacid concentration of1.0mmol/g were found to be usable values for obtaining better effectthat the residue content was2.44%and the combined phenol was243.02%.wood and leeswere used as raw materials for liquefaction with the same technological parameters and anewly formed residue was discovered in the later part of liquefaction reaction.Corn straw was liquefied in phenol and the reactant was co-condensed withepichlorohydrin to obtain a novel liquefied corn-straw-based epoxy resin. The synthetics ofepoxy resin reaction conditions have been selected by orthogonal test. The shear strength ofwood chips with liquefied corn-straw-based epoxy resin cured by polyamide was determined. The structure and molecular weight distribution were characterized by FTIR and GPC. Itindicated that the epoxy resin has been synthesized. The product samples were tested andshowed better capabilities tensile intensity was6Mpa, it was accord for application inindustrial production.
