With demand for energy on the rise, the storage capacity of oil and its products are also rising. Accidental releases and fire explosion accidents often occur in the process of production, storage and transportation, and they lead to not only economic loss but also catastrophic consequence. Learning the diffusion rules of oil gas and formation principles of thermal fluid field has the role of guiding scientific prevention and emergency bailouts. The paper describes two aspects. At first, diffusion rules of oil and gas after tank leakage are analyzed, the behavior of oil and gas leakage is elaborated and the density distributing law of oil and gas leakage in different circumstances is simulated by FLUENT software. The other aspect is to analyze and investigate the causes of oil tank fires. Combining home and abroad research experiences and using numerical simulation software FDS which is based on large-eddy simulation as a computing platform, fires of floating roof tank whose diameter is22m is simulated. After getting the space distribution of thermal radiation of tank fires under the condition of no wind and a wind, the temperature distribution diagram, pressure profile, velocity profile and the changing curves of temperatures with time in the case of L/D=0.5,L/D=1,L/D=2,L/D=3,L/D=4are simulated. At last, an optimal distance for fireman’s rescue and a safe distance between two adjacent oil tanks are obtained.
