In recent years, with the rapid development of ethylene industry, ethylene production unit has been continuously improved and perfected. Conventional control methods are still used in the early ethylene equipment, as single-loop PID, cascade, etc. With the expansion of ethylene production scale, especially in some complex chemical process, the traditional PID control scheme has been unable to meet the more complex industrial process control requirements. Therefore, the development of practical APC technology has great significance and application value for stable production and improving operating efficiency in chemical process.Today most of chemical process control use distributed control system. To develop APC technology in DCS system, it has development, transplant and application difficulties, and other issues. In order to apply the APC technology to the DCS system conveniently, this paper presents an APC platform based on OPC communication technology and APC software MANTRA. APC strategies are developed entirely on the host computer. And the development is convenient and portable highly.Taking a petrochemical plant propylene distillation column for study case, this paper firstly described in detail the architecture of APC platform for propylene distillation column based on MANTRA, including the introduction of MANTRA control software, Agilor real-time database, DCS system, Hysys software and OPC communication protocol. Then it analyzed the process mechanism of propylene distillation system, designed and developed the APC strategies for propylene distillation column. At this time, this paper used SVM-based soft sensor technology to build the soft sensor system. Finally, the APC strategies were implemented in MANTRA, and APC platform takes the propylene distillation column model in Hysys for simulation running control object.
