At present, most advanced control systems of chemical process use DCS system, but DCS system is restricted by some conditions:such as limited storage space of hardwares, difficult to be implemented online because of safety problems, expensive costs to develop and so on.The advanced control platform developed in this paper is based on MANTRA and OPC protocol which is used for controlling the key units of ethylene plant.This paper aims at cracking reaction unit and distillation tower of ethylene and introduces the design and implementation of the advanced control platform. According to ethylene unit process and control requirements, the framework and software environment are designed firstly. And then several control systems are developed using the MANTRA software, i.e."temperature equilibrium control system","cracking severity advanced control system","process quality control system of Distillation column" especially the emphasis is paid on design and implementation of "INCRSUM module" in the temperature equilibrium control system, and the unperturbed switching problem is also solved in this paper.To test the effectiveness of the advanced control system offline, the object transfer function model and OPC based interface are developed so as to build the simulation platform. To ensure prompt response time of advanced control algorithm on the upper computers online, some redundant modules are integrated. Finally the developed APC platform is tested for its communication to DCS system and the control function for ethylene plant, and the result proves its effectiveness.
