The traditional large NC equipment’ RAM has micro gap which reduce ma-chining precision and decline work piece surface quality. To solve this problem, the research group puts forward an adaptive hydraulic compensating system which contains gap compensator, hydraulic control module and electrical module. Gap compensator is the system’s actuator, responsible for the final compensation; the hydraulic control module is responsible for providing certain pressure which gap compensator need; Electrical module’s job is take data from the machine operating system, and calculate the pressure for gap compensator, send the information to the hydraulic control module. In this paper, based on the existing research, we do more research work on the gap compensator. The main research contents are as follows:1, Aim at the gap compensator’s performance, this paper theoretically analysis follows things:one is to analyze the relationship between size of gap compensator’s compensate area and compensation stiffness; the second is analyzed the differ-ences between hydraulic support stiffness and solid steel brace stiffness; three is to analyze the relationship between the RAM’s move state and the surface contact stiffness.2, The paper designed a test platform for the gap compensator after the theo-ry analysis. Test platform design work mainly includes:based on the similarity prin-ciple, designing a small scale RAM system device, so that the test can be proceed under the condition of laboratory; Use Mitsubishi servo motor, PLC and ball screw to design a driving device, then the ram and the saddle can be relative movement; Using cylinder and overflow valve to design a loading device, which can provide a stability force, in order to exert effect on the slippery pillow, observe its defor-mation; Design a displacement measuring device, so that can accurate measure-ment of tiny displacement, in order to quantitatively detect the deflection of the slippery pillow.3, According to the test results, analysis the performance of the compensator. Put forward a formula between the forces exert on gap compensator and the de-formation of compensator. Validate the results are consistent with theory.4, The paper design an oil supply device, the device adopts the original en-closed reciprocating precision pressure structure, with pressure transmitter, Mitsubishi PLC and the servo motor, through the fuzzy PID control to realize the stability of the oil pressure, high precision and automatic control function.
