ABSTRACT:Railway oily sludge is the byproduct of the municipal waste water treatment. The quantity of sludge is very large and the component of it is very complex. If sludge can’t be well disposed, it will give rise to secondary pollution. At the same time, environment issues in industries production have attracted more and more attention; the treatment and disposal of petroleum oily sludge represent major challenges for railway industries. At present the incineration technology is thought as one of the most practicable technology in the field of sewage sludge treatment in the world. In most of countries, such as European countries, America, Japan, etc., this technology has been very popular and operated successfully step by step. It’s obvious advantages are fast disposal speed, decreasing components efficiently and recycle energy as well. And in the recent years most of countries make much more strict regulations on the time and space of disposing wastes, so incineration technology has been a main method of sewage sludge treatment. But the study on incinerating railway oily sludge is few.In the chapter it surveys the current railway industry of oily wastewater and oily sludge treatment. It gives comprehensive analysis on the physicochemical characteristics of the railway oily sludge, which includes pH, moisture content, oil content, proximate analysis, element analysis and thermal property analysis. The results show the pH of the railway oily sludge is between6.5and9, the oil content of railway oily sludge is between4%and20%, and the gross heat value is between5830kJ/kg and19510kJ/kg, which the highest heat value is even higher than that of burning coal at some railway station’s boiler. Compared to the fixed carbon burning of coal, the railway oily sludge has a high volatiles content, which is corresponding to the intense combustion temperature380℃lower than450℃of the coal. Based on the data of the railway oily sludge properties and considered the current situation treatment of the railway oily sewage and railway oily sludge and the inherent characteristics of the railway oily sludge, it is a good method to use the incineration technology for disposal of railway oily sludge by mixing with coal. It was investigated in the incineration disposal to study combustion characteristics, gaseous pollutant emissions and ash characteristics compared with the national standard, it is found that the flue gas can meet the Boiler air pollutant emission standards (GB/T23485-2009), National discharge standard of air pollutants (GB16297-1996) and Urban sewage treatment plant sludge disposal separate burning with argillaceous (GB/T24602-2009), and the ash also can meet the Hazardous waste identification standard leaching toxicity identification(GB5085.3-2007). Finally it is concluded that if oily sludge incineration method is used to deal with railway oily sludge not only can make full use of the secondary resources, and it also can bring good economic benefit and safety environmental protection.By using the data obtained from the research achievements of this paper and the conclusion, it provides reference for the selection of the railway oily sludge treatment in resource utilization.
